Acupuncture is the stimulation, by the insertion of needles, of specific points on the body which can alter various biochemical and physiological conditions. Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, which are the body's natural pain-relieving neurohormones. Acupuncture affects the functioning of the hormonal system, promotes reduced inflammation, improves circulation and relief from pain. When performed on appropriate patients by our trained physiotherapists, acupuncture can be a safe and natural way to encourage healing. Functional Dry Needling
For those that aren’t familiar with dry needling, it’s a procedure in which an acupuncture needle is inserted through the skin into the muscle. The explanation behind the name is that the needle is dry and there is no injection of any substance. During dryneedling, tender points, also known as triggerpoints are identified on the body.A needle is then inserted into the triggerpoint and headed in and out of it.Triggerpoints are irritable parts of the muscle. These taut muscle fibres or bands can often be associated with referred pain patterns to other parts of the body.
